Judd Apatow’s brilliant Knocked Up took its modest m. budget to over 0m. back in 2007, and now the writer-director’s back for more this year with This Is 40, a semi-sequel/spin-off that sees Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann reprising their roles once more.

We got a brilliant first trailer back in April, and now we have two new images to share of the leading stars.

“Writer/director/producer Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Funny People) brings audiences This Is 40, an original comedy that expands upon the story of Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann) from the blockbuster hit Knocked Up as we see firsthand how they are dealing with their current state of life.”

Jason Segel will similarly be reprising his role alongside Judd and Mann, as well as Apatow and Mann’s own children Maude and Iris Apatow, with very promising support coming from Megan Fox, Albert Brooks, Chris O’Dowd, John Lithgow, Melisssa McCarthy, and the ever-brilliant Lena Dunham.

This Is 40 will be released in the US on 21st December, a date which could well put it in the running for an awards run. Bridesmaids went to the Oscars with two nominations this year, and though fewer comedies make the cut than dramas, Apatow’s reputation is more than enough to be a serious contender. Here in the UK, we’ll have to wait until 14th February, 2013 for it to reach our shores, but it looks like it’s going to be well worth the wait. As usual with these new images, you can click to enlarge.
