Poster for Steven Speilberg's LincolnLast night, 50 million people were expected to tune in to watch the US Presidential Debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, and with such an enormous anticipated viewing audience, DreamWorks used the opportunity to buy a TV spot for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Lincoln, at a significant two minutes in length.

Daniel Day-Lewis takes the lead of an all-star cast as the eponymous Abraham Lincoln, and following the first full-length trailer last month, this extended TV spot continues to impress.

“Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.”

Starring alongside the presidential lead will be Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, John Hawkes, Jared Harris, Jackie Earle Haley, James Spader, Lee Pace, David Oyelowo, and David Straithairn.

Spielberg is behind the camera, directing once more from a script by the Oscar-nominated Tony Kushner (Munich), who adapts the original book, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Lincoln will open in a limited release in the US on 9th November, before going wide a week later on 16th November. Here in the UK, it will arrive on the big screen on 25th January, 2013, ten days after the anticipated nominations are announced for the Oscars, where we could well be seeing Day-Lewis head for his leading role. For now, here’s the powerful TV spot from last night’s debate. Enjoy.
