Iron Man 3 will be kicking off Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in style next spring, with Robert Downey, Jr. returning to the role that first kicked off the studio’s superhero blockbuster phenomenon back in 2008.

To date, we’ve seen one official image of RDJ on set, and with filming well underway, E! have announced that Marvel will be debuting the first teaser trailer on 23rd October at 12:01 a.m.

Assuming that that’s a minute after midnight, PT, that means we’ll be seeing it at 8:01 a.m. that Tuesday morning here in the UK.

The official synopsis for the film remains unknown, but the film is thought to revolve around Warren Ellis’ Extremis arc. Depending on how much of a teaser the upcoming trailer is, we might have a better idea in a few weeks’ time.

Alongside Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Jon Favreau will be reprising their roles, with Paul Bettany once more lending his voice as JARVIS, and Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Ben Kingsley, and James Badge Dale will be making their Marvel debuts, completing an immense leading line-up.

Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) will be making his sophomore feature behind the camera, directing from a script he co-wrote with Drew Pearce (No Heroics, Sherlock Holmes 3), making for yet another intriguing and awesome choice of filmmakers behind the camera from the billion-dollar-grossing studio.

Iron Man 3 is set to hit theatres in the UK on 26th April, 2013, followed by the traditional first-weekend-of-May release in the US, on 3rd May. If the report is right, you should definitely be sure to check back here in the morning on Tuesday, 23rd October. We’ll have it for you as soon as it hits. This is going to be epic.
