Lola VersusStarring the rising young star Greta Gerwig in the lead, Lola Versus debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival last month and is due to be released in the US next weekend.

Gerwig leads what looks like a promising comedy alongside Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, the upcoming RoboCop), Zoe Lister Jones, Hamish Linklater, and Bill Pullman, and though the reviews out of Tribeca were mixed, I’m still very much interested by the sole fact that Gerwig is front and centre here.

A great new clip and batch of images has made its way online, including a shot of Kinnaman (the fifth below) with a tattoo of what I’m pretty sure is a Swedish Shakespeare quotation on his arm – given that he’s Swedish himself, I’d imagine this might not be part of the film but just a tattoo he has, but interesting either way.

(If anyone is interested, it looks to be the lines, “We are such stuff / As dreams are made on, and our little life / Is rounded with a sleep” from The Tempest.)

“Greta Gerwig plays Lola, a 29-year-old woman dumped by her longtime boyfriend Luke (Joel Kinnaman) just three weeks before their wedding. With the help of her close friends Henry (Hamish Linklater) and Alice (Zoe Lister Jones), Lola embarks on a series of desperate encounters in an attempt to find her place in the world as a single woman approaching 30.”

Gerwig’s involvement, combined with that synopsis, the supporting cast, and the fact that Fox Searchlight are distributing it is more than enough to make me want to see it.

Directed by Daryl Wein and co-written by Wein and star Zoe Lister Jones, Lola Versus will be released in the US on 8th June, and as yet no UK date has been set, so we’ll probably have to wait for the DVD/Blu-ray, but here’s to hoping we won’t have to wait too long. For now, the new clip and images (which you can click to enlarge), followed by the first trailer in case you missed it last month.
