2013 may not have featured anything quite as major as the assemblage of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes or the conclusion of an epic trilogy featuring a certain Caped Crusader, but it was still been a pretty good year for superhero movies. Two of The Avengers starred in their respective solo outings, Superman finally returned to the big screen, Wolverine at last got a worthy spin-off, and the second volume of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s critically acclaimed Kick-Ass was adapted.

There were a few other comic book movies released of course (none of which particularly impressed audiences or critics), but in this feature, we count down the ten best moments which were featured in Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Man of Steel, The Wolverine and Kick-Ass 2. Some of these would prove to be quite controversial, so as always, we’d love to hear whether or not you agree with our selections in the comment section at the bottom of the page!

Spoilers, obviously, abound.

10. Iron Legion (Iron Man 3)

In the gap between The Avengers and Iron Man 3, Tony Stark created armour after armour as a way of coping with the traumatic events of Joss Whedon’s superhero ensemble. This “Iron Legion” would prove to be extremely useful in the action-packed final battle, as the titular hero faced off against Aldrich Killian and his army of genetically enhanced Extremis soldiers.

While the sequence itself was a spectacle to behold (particularly the scene above in which they all arrived one after the other), the biggest treat for comic book fans was seeing all the different armours which the legion was comprised of. These included the likes of the Silver Centurion armour and one which very closely resembled the Hulkbuster suit which is used in the comics to, you guessed it, take out the Green Goliath!
