Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs in the early 20th Century, Tarzan has been brought to the big screen several times in the past hundred years, most notably with the 1999 Disney animated adaptation.

The latest iteration of the classic story is set to hit the big screen next summer, under director Reinhard Klooss (Animals United), and now the first teaser trailer has surfaced online, courtesy of Animatie, along with a behind-the-scenes featurette.

Kellan Lutz (Twilight, Immortals) leads the motion-capture cast, alongside Spencer Locke (Resident Evil: Afterlife) as Jane, and Jaime Ray Newman (A Town Called Eureka), Robert Capron (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Mark Deklin (GCB), and Trevor St. John (One Life to Live).

Klooss is directing from a script he co-wrote with Jessica Postigo (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) and Yoni Brenner (Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs), with the director producing alongside Robert Kulzer (Resident Evil, Wrong Turn).

The trailer has been getting a bit of a bad rep as it’s done the rounds tonight for poor animation quality, but I think if you hit the switch to watch it up in 1080p, it looks pretty decent to me. Maybe not as good as motion capture has been in recent years, but still solid.

Tarzan 3D is set for release in Germany on 25th July, 2013. No word yet on its UK or US release, but I’d imagine we’ll be seeing it sometime in the height of summer as well. For now, here’s your first teaser, followed by a look behind the scenes. Drop us your thoughts in the comments below.
