Resident Evil has been one of the biggest and best action/horror franchises in recent memory, with the four instalments grossing over 0m. to date.

The fifth new entry into the franchise, Resident Evil: Retribution, hits the big screen next month, and now a brilliant new featurette has landed online, to help familiarise those new to the series with the events of the first four films.

“The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice, awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.”

Milla Jovovich returns once more as our heroine, Alice, alongside a great cast headed up by Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine, Johann Urb as Leon Kennedy, Boris Kodjoe as Luther West, Bingbing Li as Ada Wong, and a brilliant surprise return from Michelle Rodriguez as Rain Ocampo, who starred (and seemingly died) in 2002’s first Resident Evil.

Paul W.S. Anderson is back behind the camera, directing from his own script, and all we’ve seen from the film so far suggests it’s going to make good on its promise of taking the series to higher levels.

Resident Evil: Retribution will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 14th September in the US, followed by two weeks later on 28th September in the UK. I can’t wait. This is going to be awesome.
