The first trailer has debuted for the upcoming drama Woodshock, the new film from A24, and you can view the beautiful first look in the player below.

Following in the footsteps of fellow fashion icon Tom Ford (A Single Man, Nocturnal Animals) into directing, sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy are heading behind the camera for their debut film. And while the first trailer looks stunning, they have also managed to secure the talents of Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man, Melancholia, The Beguiled) to star in the film, who incidentally is a friend of the duo.

The film sees Dunst play a young woman who’s real and fantasy world begin to blur under the influence of drugs after she suffers a terrible loss. Dunst has been on something of a hot streak in recent years: having been nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the second season of Fargo, she will soon be seen in Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled, which also stars Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning. She also featured in smash-hit Hidden Figures and Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Special.

Here’s the official synopsis:

The exquisite feature film debut of visionary fashion designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy (Rodarte), Woodshock is a hypnotic exploration of isolation, paranoia, and grief that exists in a dream-world all its own. Kirsten Dunst stars as Theresa, a haunted young woman spiralling in the wake of profound loss, torn between her fractured emotional state and the reality-altering effects of a potent cannabinoid drug. Immersive, spellbinding, and sublime, Woodshock transcends genre to become a singularly thrilling cinematic experience that marks the arrival of the Mulleavy siblings as a major new voice in film.

Joe Cole (Green Room), Lorelei Linklater (Boyhood) and Pilou Asbaek (Ghost in the Shell) co-star.

Woodshock opens in the USA on September 15th with the UK release still to be confirmed.
