It’s been in development since 2010, but it looks like The Haunted Mansion is finally gaining traction as Drive’s Ryan Reynolds is now in talks to team up with director Guillermo del Toro for the Disney movie.

Like the wildly successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, The Haunted Mansion is based on a theme park ride, and High Fidelity’s D.V. DeVincentis is currently working on the latest draft of the movie’s screenplay. Plot details are sadly scarce, but it has previously been described as a supernatural family adventure.

Del Toro first announced his plans for The Haunted Mansion at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2010. However, nothing ever really seemed to come of it, and the filmmaker moved on to a number of other projects.

Disney and Gosling have been meeting for months to find the right project for the notoriously picky actor, and it sounds like this might be it. Pairing these two up obviously has huge potential, and as he continues to shun superhero movies, this could be a much needed hit for Gosling after the tepid response to his directorial debut.  Both are said to be big fans of The Haunted Mansion and are thought to be good friends.

Not content with holding the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, this is another sign of Disney’s desire to completely dominate cinemas by targeting all quadrants. They’re even developing a live-action Pinocchio!
