It has been announced today that legendary British actor Roger Moore has died today aged 89 after a battle with cancer, via his official twitter feed.

Moore, who most famously played James Bond through the 1970’s and 1980’s had been battling with cancer in recent months and died in Switzerland.

Here is the official statement from the actors official Twitter page:

“With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated.”

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer.

“The love with which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone.”

 

The actor had a long and successful career but will best be remembered for his stint as 007 in films Live and Let Die (1973); The Man with the Golden Gun (1974); The Spy Who Loved Me (1977); Moonraker (1979); For Your Eyes Only (1981); Octopussy (1983); and A View to a Kill (1985).

He will be sorely missed. Our condolences and thoughts are with his family at this time.
