Having made one of the most memorable debuts in recent memory with District 9, we’re naturally looking forward to Neill Blomkamp’s return this summer with Elysium.
Led by Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley, the film promises to be another hugely successful sci-fi blockbuster, with plenty more action thrown in for good measure.
The first trailer is set to debut online later today, and Yahoo Movies have shared the first poster ahead of its release.
The impoverished inhabitants of a ruined planet Earth fight to join the safe and pristine living conditions of the space station Elysium, where only the wealthy and healthy reside. In need of medical treatment only available on Elysium, one resident of the planet’s slums attempts to reach the space station at any cost, and his actions could offset the entire balance of haves and have-nots.
William Fichtner, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, and Faran Tahir star alongside Damon, Foster, and Copley, completing the cast very nicely.
Blomkamp is once more directing from his own script, with Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class) producing.
Elysium is set to be released in the US on August 9th, with its UK release date currently set for a little later on 20th September. I’m really hoping that our date will be moved up in the coming months, because I can’t wait for this one to hit. For now, here’s the first poster from the film.
