The Lone Ranger marks the second of Disney’s two big-budget blockbusters this year – excluding the likes of Marvel’s Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World – following on from Sam Raimi’s hugely successful Oz the Great and Powerful last month.
Gore Verbinski’s action western sees Armie Hammer take the titular lead as John Reid / The Lone Ranger, with Johnny Depp looking to be brilliant as Tonto.
We’ve seen plenty from the movie to persuade us it’s going to be a lot of fun come summer – the latest trailer arrived last month, teasing yet more excellent action. And with its release fast approaching, two new character posters for Hammer and Depp have surfaced online.
Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice–taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.
Hammer and Depp are joined by a great cast, led by Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson, and Helena Bonham Carter.
Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, Rango) is directing from a script written by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott, who penned all four Pirates films, and Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road).
The Lone Ranger will be released on July 3rd in the US, with its UK release date currently set a little later on 9th August. Whilst we eagerly awaits its arrival, here are the two new character posters to set the mood.
