Ben Wheatley’s FreeFire is yet to hit cinemas but talk surrounding his next venture, monster caper Freakshift, currently features Oscar Winner Alicia Vikander in talks to take the lead after she finishes kicking some serious butt in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.

Freakshift has been a passion project for Wheatley for many years and production looks all set to begin in August, exactly when Vikander ties up all loose ends as Lara Croft. Good Timing? Or is she simply a sure thing to sign on the dotted line for a cop vs. monster showdown?

After Wheatley’s successes with Kill List, High Rise, which starred Tom Hiddleston and Luke Evans and the forthcoming Freefire starring Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy and Brie Larson he is having absolutely no trouble in attracting the big guns to work on his projects.

The plot, which was penned by Wheatley alongside Amy Jump, is an action-thriller where the monsters ascend from the depths of the earth at night to lay merry hell on humankind. The Freakshift are a cop task force of the lowest kind full of misfits and lawbreakers who hunt down the monsters, mainly for money, but also as a sport (and to protect mankind too). Wheatley’s long-standing collaboration with Film4 still stands strong as they provide the financing.

Over the past couple of months, the Freakshift twitter account has released some of the concept art from the film, which you can view below.

Wheatley isn’t letting the grass grow beneath his feet, he recently attached himself to Warner Bros adaptation of Hard Boiled which will see him team up again with High Rise star Tom Hiddleston. The same could be said of Vikander as she doesn’t look likely to stop anytime soon after already completing filming on Wim Wender’s Submergence with James McAvoy and Euphoria with Eva Green.

More news will be added as and when it comes in.
