Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a very busy movie, especially as it will not only pit the Dark Knight against the Man of Steel, but also introduces audiences to the likes of Wonder Woman, Doomsday, Lex Luthor, and other notable members of the Justice League.

However, it sounds like it could have been much different. Talking in a recent interview, director Zack Snyder confirmed that he considered including a couple of very iconic Batman villains. Before you start getting excited about seeing them in that R-Rated director’s cut though, the idea was scrapped fairly early on in the movie’s development process.

“The Joker and The Riddler both came close to being in this movie,” Snyder confirmed when asked to name names. “We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie and that’s cool, but I didn’t want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict.”

These comments seemingly debunk rumours that The Joker shows up as part of a flashback sequence, and as great as it would have been to see these two, you can understand why Snyder may have flinched at going too over the top when it comes to focusing on Batman!

With Ben Affleck still expected to direct a solo movie starring Batman, it’s going to be very interesting indeed seeing how much of that adventure ends up being teased here…
