THR are reporting that Zack Snyder has officially signed on to direct Superman for Warner Bros., triumphing over other potential directors Darren Aronofsky, Matt Reeves, Duncan Jones, Tony Scott and Jonathan Liebesman.

Christopher Nolan and wife Emma Thomas will serve as the films producers, while David S. Goyer is currently writing the screenplay.

The reboot is tentatively titled Man of Steel, and Warner Bros. are said to be aiming for a late-2012 release.

Not much else is known about the film at this point in time, but we’ll be sure to update you when more details have been confirmed. One of the directors on the shortlist, Duncan Jones, tweeted this a few moments after news began to sweep across the internet.

If the rumors are true, huge congrats to Zack Snyder on the Superman gig. I cant wait to see it!

Synder previously teamed with Warner Bros. for Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, which will be released nationwide on October 15.
