Aaron Johnson – whose screen credits include one-time Perfect Snogger, a young John Lennon and wannabe superhero Kick-Ass – looked set to return to cinemas as Cyclops in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. That is, until Tarquin Pack debunked the rumour in an interview with Movieweb. When quizzed about Johnson’s involvement, Pack replied:

“Don’t believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron’s kind of busy, yeah.”

Doubt was first cast over this piece of casting by EW early last month, yet rumours persisted that Johnson was attatched to star as Scott Summers, fuelled by the actor’s meetings with producer Bryan Singer, and his being photographed with Vaughn and cast member James McAvoy.

A first time father, the 20 year old inevitably has a lot on his plate. Next up in Chatroom, Johnson is also expected to reprise his role as Dave Lizewski if Kick-Ass 2 is ever greenlit.

Elsewhere in the interview, Pack confirmed the rumour that scenes from First Class had to be cut after striking similarities to Inception were made. The producer is optimistic, however, that their “really cool idea” will not necessarily go to waste.

With Johnson out, the role of Cyclops remains uncast. Who would you like to see in the role?
