Johnny Depp returned to London yesterday evening for the UK premiere of his latest film, the David Koepp directed big screen adaptation of The Mortdecai Trilogy by Kyril Bonfiglioli.

Most of the imagery you’ll have seen so far will be along these lines…

but there’s a fairly sizable cast behind the moustache, with Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany among those along for the ride.

If you’re adrift without an official synopsis hold on as tight as you possibly can,

Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Lionsgate surprised exactly no-one when they announced that this would be the first film in a trilogy. It will be very interesting to see if Depp’s fans flock to see their hero in another screwball espionage film, and if they’ve forgotten The Tourist.

Here are the red carpet interviews from the world premiere.
