He played a key role in the creation of the Harry Potter franchise and is now looking to do the same with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but the latest project being worked on by producer David Heyman is a movie which looks set to revolve around…Willy Wonka?!

We’re not talking about a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory reboot either as the plan apparently is to give the character his own standalone movie which will focus on his early adventures. Other characters from the Roald Dahl stories involving Wonka could also appear, but seeing as the author never penned any tales revolving solely around the factory owner, chances are that this is going to be a new tale which perhaps serves as a prequel of sorts.

A director hasn’t been found, but The Secret Life of Pets’ Simon Rich is penning the script. This is a bold move by Warner Bros. considering the fact that The BFG bombed earlier this year despite the fact that filmmaker as prolific as Steve Spielberg was at the helm.

The late Gene Wilder previously played Willy Wonka, while Johnny Depp later took over the role in Tim Burton’s reboot of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Who will be next to play the iconic character remains to be seen, but common sense says that it will be a younger actor.
