I have an aversion to any new film described as “the next… (insert successful film)” or the “…version of… (insert successful film)” but soon we will see Desperados, a film which is described by its writer (Ellen Rapoport) as “a female-orientated The Hangover”.

To be fair everyone needs to sell their script to execs and this clearly worked but I can’t be the only one who thinks that sound like a pretty bad pitch.

Anyway, in addition to the previous casting of Isla Fisher we have now learnt who will direct the film and it’s Wayne McClammy. You might not be that familar with McClammy but he has worked a lot with comedian Sarah Silverman on her (now cancelled) TV show The Sarah Silverman Program and he also directed the “I’m f*cking Matt Damon” and “I’m f*cking Ben Affleck” videos. Just in case you need a reminder of these or you’ve not seen them before you can check them out, embedded at the bottom of this post.

The synopsis for Desperados is as follows (courtesy of /Film)

Wesley Robbins, a 30-something single attorney with an unhealthy obsession with coupling up, thinks she’s found the perfect man. But when he doesn’t call for days after the first time they sleep together she freaks out and sends him a scathing email, only to learn he’s been laid up in a Mexican hospital with some broken bones. On a whim, she and her girlfriends travel down south to erase the email before she ruins what she believes could be her one true love.
