Yesterday, news broke that the  ITV’s Director of Television, Peter Fincham, has decided to cut the Tim Minchin performance on the Jonathan Ross Show Christmas Special for fear of causing offence to religious groups – specifically Christians. Well, I’m a Christian and found myself laughing through the video from start to finish. I can understand why ITV pulled it for fear of various Ofcom investigations that would no doubt have undergone if the song had been run but we see far worse normally don’t we?

My faith is very important to me and to be honest, I’m so used to people taking the mickey out of it that it’s water off a ducks back. Tim Minchin is a very very talented comedy song writer and used this talent to write something both topical and funny. I think the fact that he actually relates Christmas to Jesus is actually a compliment as Christmas to most people who celebrate it has nothing to do with the nativity story whatsoever but is just a time to have some time off work, get drunk and see families while spending money on presents they cannot afford.

Bottom line, this didn’t offend me at all but what does is hearing people say ‘Oh my God’ on television repeatedly. It does my head in where as this just made me laugh. These are just my own thoughts and do not express the opinion of anyone else on this site but…. I would love to know what you think!

Are you a Christian, did this offend you? If you’re not a Christian, do you think it should still have been cut? Please let me know in the comments below.
