The first film in the prequel trilogy to the classic Planet of the Apes film took us back to the start of the whole debacle. In Rise of the Planet of the Apes James Franco and Andy Serkis as Caesar the young ape formed a valuable bond. This was the crucial component for everything which followed. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the trilogy’s next film, showed us the fledgling ape society clashing with the remnants of the surviving humans. Now we have the final film: the War for the Planet of the Apes.
Matt Reeves told USA Today,
“Caesar, who has had a love for human beings, is now tested beyond measure. The losses of the apes on his side drive him to a really dark place. He doesn’t know anymore where his loyalties lie. He’s in a very deeply conflicted period of his life.
“But the journey he takes you on is chilling…There’s also bizarrely a kind of respect [between the Colonel and Caesar] and understanding from both sides…It’s understanding the condition of the other person, what they’re having to suffer through and what they’re trying to protect.”
