To celebrate the release of Violent Night (out now!) we sat down with John Leguizamo and director Tommy Wirkola to find out all about this strange “nightmare before Christmas”.

An elite team of mercenaries breaks into a family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone hostage inside. However, they aren’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus (David Harbour) is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.

Speaking to Leguizamo, we chat about Christmas, the lure of the script and its originality, playing the bad egg-nog of the film, working and sparring with David Harbour, and what it was like to film an alternative Christmas film. Next, we ask Wirkola about the lure of the script for him as a filmmaker, choosing Harbour for the role of Saint Nick, the irreverence and commentary under the surface of the film, and what audiences can expect from the film’s bold vision.
