Vanessa Kirby has joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s Napoleon Bonaparte biopic ‘Kitbag’ replacing Jodie Comer.

Kirby joins Joaquin Phoenix who plays Bonaparte. Comer would have taken on the role of Josephine.

Comer confirmed her exit from the feature to THR stating the reason was due to a scheduling conflict that has come up in the wake of some recent schedule changes for the production and was reportedly unhappy she had to leave the film.

The film is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to the emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. The intention of the film is to capture Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.

David Scarpa, who wrote the Scott-directed ‘All the Money in the World’ has penned the script. Scott and Kevin Walsh for Scott Free will produce the project which has been set by 20th Century Studios.

Filming is due to commence this spring.
