Green Lantern

Deadline’s Nikke Finke has returned with a vengeance, dropping a major Warner Bros./DC Comics movie scoop just hours after launching her own website. Needless to say, fans who have complained about a lack of movies based on these characters have a lot to look forward to over the next few years!

Though it isn’t completely confirmed, her sources reveal that the following movies are likely to be revealed at a panel during next month’s San Diego Comic-Con, just one year after Zack Snyder announced plans for a Man of Steel sequel which would bring Batman and Superman together on the big screen for the first time.

May 2016 – Batman v Superman
July 2016 – Shazam
Xmas 2016 – Sandman
May 2017 – Justice League
July 2017 – Wonder Woman
Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up
May 2018 – Man Of Steel 2

Finke goes on to add that there had been talk of Metal Men and Suicide Squad movies, but that they’ve now fallen off the radar. Oh, and the reason for the recent delay in starting production on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice? Well, it was all part of the plan to build a larger DC Cinematic Universe!

“Like Marvel’s The Avengers, there will be cameos of superheroes for future installments. The cameos will include the already known Cyborg and Flash. Green Lantern [not played by Ryan Reynolds, thank god] may be introduced. And Aquaman will be seen in the Justice League movie. Problem is, Warner Bros Pictures was still negotiating with the actors for those cameos and future roles, meaning major contracts for multiple JL/character films to follow. The studio didn’t want to move forward until they had more of this secure so they held off starting production for a few months. Seemingly simple reason, but the implications are pretty darn huge.”

Perhaps the biggest surprises here are the Shazam movie (though with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson rumoured to play the villainous Black Adam, perhaps not) and a team-up between The Flash and Green Lantern. By that point, six years will have passed since the release of the latter’s critically panned solo movie, and Warner Bros. clearly want to give him another go on the big screen after rebooting the character for Justice League. Teaming him up with The Flash is a smart move.

It also seems like Ben Affleck’s Batman will be left in the Justice League franchise as there’s no mention of a solo franchise for the Caped Crusader. Which of these movies are you guys most looking forward to? Be sure to let us know your thoughts on this news in the comments section below.
