Uncharted 3The worst kept secret in the gaming world was finally confirmed today.

Naughty Dog are returning with Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, which will aim to top the 2010 PS3 Game of the Year, action adventure-cum-Indiana Jones game, Uncharted 2.

The teaser trailer itself is pretty mysterious, although the pictures hammer home the small snippets of guess-work we got from the desert maps splayed across the table – Drake’s heading to the Sahara (or somewhere like it).

In a chat with PS Blog, Naughty Dog community strategist Arne Meyer elaborated on their plans.

“Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception continues to evolve the all of the core principles we laid out for the Uncharted franchise, most important of which is creating a unmatched and extremely compelling interactive cinematic experience,” he said, before confirming the PR spiel surrounding the plot.

“Drake’s Deception features the return of famed fortune hunter Nathan Drake and follows him through a gripping, action-packed storyline that will take you all over the world. In his search for the fabled “Atlantis of the Sands,” Nathan Drake and longtime friend and mentor Victor Sullivan set off on a daring trek into the heart of the Arabian Desert. But when terrible secrets of this lost city are uncovered, their journey becomes a desperate bid for survival that will force Drake to confront his deepest fears.”

Intriguingly, and most excitingly, Uncharted 3 will fully support high-resolution stereoscopic 3D. Just imagine some of the best rollercoaster action scenes from Uncharted 2 in full eye-meltingly beautiful 3D.
