Len Wiseman’s new adaptation of Total Recall hits the big screen in the US today, and all eyes will be on the blockbuster to see how it fares – The Bourne Legacy was originally set to go head-to-head with it today, but was shifted back a week after the barn-storming success of The Avengers toppled successive blockbusters, and it will be very interesting to see if Total Recall will be hold its own with The Dark Knight Rises still going strong.

We’ve seen plenty of things already to suggest that it’ll be a lot of fun, with some awesome action/sci-fi set pieces, and now we’ve got a new look at Kate Beckinsale and Bryan Cranston in the film, alongside the UK quad poster.

“Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick.

Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.”

Colin Farrell takes the lead in this new adaptation, with Beckinsale and Jessica Biel completing the leading trio, and Cranston heading up the support alongside Bill Nighy and John Cho.

Wiseman is directing from a script by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium) and Mark Bomback (Die Hard 4.0), who of course adapt Philip K. Dick’s original 1966 short story, We Can Remember It For You Wholesale.

Total Recall is released in US theatres today, and will be making its way to UK shores later this month on 29th August. As usual with this UK poster and new image, you can click to enlarge.
