Chiwetel-Ejiofor-in-Twelve-Years-a-SlaveSteve McQueen’s Twelve Years a Slave has long been one of our must-see movies of the year, promising to be a strong Oscar contender come the end of the year.

Chiwetel Ejiofor takes the lead as Northup, and educated and married black man living in 1853 New York who gets kidnapped and forced into slavery for more than a decade.

With its Oscar-primed release on the horizon in December, Fox have released the first official images from the film over at USA Today, giving us a look at some of the leading cast.

Ejiofor is joined by Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Brad Pitt, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Paul Giamatti, Scoot McNairy, Michael Kenneth Williams, Garrett Dillahunt, Quvenzhané Wallis, Dwight Henry, Ruth Negga, and newcomer Lupita Nyongo.

McQueen is directing from a script penned by John Ridley (Red Tails, Three Kings), based on Solomon Northup’s autobiography of the same name.

Twelve Years a Slave will be released in the US on December 27th, and has its UK release date set for 24th January, 2014. Whilst we wait for the first trailer to arrive, here’s the first official look at the cast.
