True Blood and ex-Home and Away actor Ryan Kwanten will star in scriptwriter Scott Kosar’s debut as director, The Family.

Shock Till You Drop has been chatting the Kosar (writer of The Machinist and this year’s remake of The Crazies) about his alternative look at notorious US 60’s murderer Charles Manson.

“The movie won’t focus on the Manson murders. Nor is it a Manson biopic. It’s a family biopic. A movie about a surrogate family of wayward teenagers who, through extraordinary circumstances, came together and were transformed into the most notorious American family of the 20th century.”

Presumably Kwanten (currently winning plaudits for his role in upcoming Aussie neo-western Red Hill) will be playing Manson, a counter-culture figure from the late 60’s, who is perhaps best known for murdering director Roman Polanski’s pregnant wife Sharon Tate in their home in the Hollywood Hills.
