Lazy Susan 2Here’s something a little different for a Wednesday morning. We were contacted Albert Art, the director of a really interesting and cleverly thought out short film called ‘Lazy Susan’. It stars Evelyn Chew, Candace Woods, Michael Bridgman, Jenny Abel, Jesse Inocalla, Bebhinn Pidgeon and Tara Browne and tells the story of a spoiled child with unpredictable taste in food, finally gets what she deserves.

What’s extremely clever about this short film are the visual effects and the cinematography which was done by Devin Karringten. Below, I’ve embedded two trailers, the first is the high definition trailer giving you an overview of the movie. The second is the ‘Visual Effects Trailer’ which is the same as the first but shows you just how much work has gone into making this work of art using green screens and post production visual effects. Bear in mind that this was all done on a budget, and with the clever persuasion of Albert to get freelance artists to help him.

Lazy Susan 3Lazy Susan was shot with a Panasonic HVX200 in half a day in Vancouver. The post production took months to complete with Albert hunting out freelance artists to work on the CGI and transferring files via FTP (File Transfer Protocol – that’s a way of sending uploading and downloading big files – sorry for the jargon!). In the end, the project became extremely international with artists coming from the New York, Sweden, Spain, and London. All who saw it loved the concept of the film so much, they didn’t mind working for free. The narrator of the film, Allen Sawkins, is also from England, living in Vancouver.

So, as you can see, for all involved it was a roller coaster ride but they’ve done it. Check out the trailers below and keep your eyes peeled for screenings of the full 6-minute version.

You can keep track of and find more out about Lazy Susan on their official website or on their FaceBook Fan Page.
