Tracy Morgan has been tapped to star opposite Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the long-overdue sequel to the 1988 hit ‘Twins.’

The sequel, named ‘Triplets’ sees Morgan come on board as the third brother to DeVito and Schwarzenegger’s Vincent and Julian. The character was initially meant for Eddie Murphy but due to scheduling conflicts, Murphy had to drop out.

Scheduled to start filming in January 2022, the story will revolve around both Vincent and Julian finding out they have another brother.

“Secretly, there was a third baby born, a Black baby, who hasn’t been in touch with his siblings,” Reitman stated. “They don’t know each other and very early in the movie they meet and it’s how they achieve a bond together after all these years. It’s really a film about family and, no matter how different we all are, we have to learn to get along. These guys have great chemistry together, and you can see that in the reel, and how much energy they bring out in each other.”

Ivan Reitman will return to direct, Dylan Dawson & Lucas Kavner are penning the script, one that was rewritten specifically to suit Morgan’s comedy.

Released in 1988, ‘Twins’ was a huge success for Universal. Reitman directed the film that saw both Schwarzenegger and DeVito play unlikely brothers created via an experience and separated at birth. It scored $216.6 million at the global box office.
