We’ve been running as a website for a long old time now, and this particular interview – with Tom Hanks (!) – may just be at the very top of our accomplishments. To make it even better, it was for Toy Story 4, part of a franchise that illuminates cinema, and transcends generations.

We have to admit though, this sequel didn’t seem like a very good idea when it was announced, and we put that to Hanks, asking whether he too shared the same apprehensions fans around the world did, at the continuation of Woody’s story. We also ask about his experiences with this character, spanning almost three decades, and what toys he holds dearest from his own childhood.

We also had the pleasure of meeting the talented bunch who helped bring this excellent film to the big screen; director Josh Cooley, as well as producers Mark Nielsen and Jonas Rivera. Discussing all things Woody and Buzz, we also asked the latter duo about the lack of a Pixar short – as this film is the first to be released without one.

Synopsis

Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody’s slight detour leads him to his long-lost friend Bo Peep. As Woody and Bo discuss the old days, they soon start to realize that they’re worlds apart when it comes to what they want from life as a toy.

Toy Story 4 is released in cinemas across the UK on June 21st
