It’s been in development for over five years, but the Tomb Raider reboot now appears to be one step closer to becoming a reality. Roar Uthaug has signed up to direct, and don’t worry if that name doesn’t ring a bell because he’s actually best known for helming Norwegian disaster drama The Wave and has yet to work on a big budget American blockbusters.

That’s not the only big Tomb Raider news however, as Geneva Robertson-Dworet has (who is responsible for the Black List script Hibernation and was recently hired to co-write Transformers 5) is currently in negotiation to write the screenplay for this new take on the classic video game franchise. Angelina Jolie previously played the character in two movies.

Warner Bros. partnered with MGM earlier this year after GK Films picked up the rights from Square Enix in 2011. Plot details for this new take are being kept a closely guarded secret, though it’s previously been reported that it will focus on a young Tomb Raider similar to the recent video games. Evan Daugherty, Marti Noxon and Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby all previously worked on the script, and a release date has yet to be announced by the studio.
