Having starred in Game of Thrones, actor Tobias Menzies returns yet again to the smaller screen, this time with a starring role in The Terror – executively produced by Ridley Scott.

Telling the true story of a ship that sails into unchartered territory, Menzies explains what it was about this project, and role, that how enticing it is to have a name like Scott’s attached to the production. On that note, he speaks about the joy in collaborating with Jared Harris and Ciaran Hinds, while he explains how a set is, in some ways, similar to an expedition a navy crew would embark on.

Menzies then discusses how great it is for actors to be given such scope to explore a character when making a TV series, and whether he can enjoy The Terror as an audience member would. This leads on to a quick chat about Game of Thrones (we can’t help ourselves) and we ask if he could ever brave the ocean in the same way his character does in the show.

Synopsis

British Royal Navy Capt. Sir John Franklin is nearing the end of an uneven career. Described as “a man everyone likes, but no one respects,” Franklin has seen men die under his leadership on previous expeditions, and now he would like to retire with honors by discovering the Northwest Passage. Guiding the HMS Erebus into uncharted territory, Franklin’s most perilous journey yet pushes his crew to the brink of extinction. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, the men have been put in horrible danger by their commander’s Victorian hubris. A struggle to survive ignites infighting, and Franklin must try to undo the damage he has caused.

The Terror premieres on Tuesday 24th April at 9pm on AMC on BT TV.
