With just over a month before the sequel hits cinemas, Marvel is gearing up nicely for the release of Thor: The Dark World.

Following on both from where Kenneth Branagh left off in the original movie and where Joss Whedon left off in last year’s The Avengers, the sequel boasts an impressive cast of new and familiar faces. And after releasing a handful of character posters in recent weeks, the studio has launched a new character poster for Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith the Accursed over on EW, as well as a new poster for Idris Elba returning as Heimdall.

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Chris Hemsworth is of course back in the eponymous lead, with Natalie Portman starring opposite, and a great cast led by Tom Hiddleston, Elba, Eccleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Tadanobu Asano, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Chris O’Dowd, and Rene Russo.

Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) is in the director’s chair this time around, with a script penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: The First Avenger) and Christopher Yost (The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes).

Thor: The Dark World will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 30th October here in the UK, with its US release date following on November 8th. Here are the latest posters, which you can click through to enlarge, to help make the wait a little easier.
