Fret not X-Files enthusiasts, Channel 5 have today announced that the cult series, The X-Files will return to the channel in 2018.

Filming is currently underway on the new series which will comprise of 10 new episodes. Creator Chris Carter returns as executive producer, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning to reprise their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The series has been acquired from 20th Century Fox Television Distribution by Katie Keenan, VP, Acquisitions, Channel 5 and VIMN UK.

During NYCC in October, it was revealed that William, Mulder and Scully’s son, is reportedly playing a huge role in the mythology episodes this time around. Those episodes will serve as the season premiere and finale, with the remaining eight in between serving as standalones.

The X-Files has become a global hit since its first series hit 24 years ago in 1993 and is one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.
