Comic book fans weren’t happy when Ant-Man and The Wasp didn’t appear in The Avengers, and that’s because they’re both founding members in the comic books. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will be taking a very different approach though, with original Ant-Man Hank Pym actually long retired from that role.

However, it has now been confirmed that Janet Van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp, will indeed factor into the movie!

According to Kevin Feige, “We will see Janet Van Dyne in action in this film, and part of sort of what happened to her. And then we will understand why that is the reason that [Hank] doesn’t want his daughter to follow in those footsteps. One of the reasons why he’s always so upset about superheroes in general, dismissive of them in general and also a reason why he doesn’t want her to put on the suit.”

Comments from Michael Douglas at last year’s Comic-Con appeared to indicate that something might have happened to Janet in the past, and new set visit reports which have arrived online today confirm that.

Hank apparently blames S.H.I.E.L.D. for whatever happens to Janet, and it’s also hinted that Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) will end up becoming The Wasp by the end of Ant-Man, something we actually listed as one of the things we most want to see in the movie earlier today. With Ant-Man less than a month away from being released, Marvel have started going a little overboard when it comes to releasing TV spots, but you can find a selection of the very best ones in the players below.
