The Walking Dead’s sixth season ended on a massive cliffhanger as Negan selected one of Rick’s group to make an example of by smashing their head in with his barbed wire covered baseball bat, Lucille. Unfortunately, we never got to see who the victim was, but it was pretty obvious that they won’t be making it into the next season alive and well after that beating!
Now, a new image has been released from the upcoming premiere, and it puts the spotlight on Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s villainous Negan just moments before he chooses his victim.
The first footage from season seven of The Walking Dead will be revealed during the show’s Comic-Con panel next weekend, but don’t expect that to spoil who Negan decided to take out! That’s something which we’ll unfortunately have to wait until October to find out.
“Who was at the receiving end of Negan’s bat will be revealed in the first episode,” director and executive producer Greg Nicotero confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly before going on to promise that we’ll hear plenty more from the villain moving forward.
“He’s the kind of guy who imagines himself on stage at a high school production and he loves every second of it. So, I don’t really see a lot of quiet contemplative moments with Negan. I feel like with Negan it’s really going to be about him gesticulating and him sort of relishing in the sound of his own voice while he commands the stage in front of whoever’s alive.”
