This time around he plays a disgraced security agent who has a chance to restore his reputation after he messed up protecting a Van Gogh masterpiece. Now a no-mark bodyguard he is out in charge of escorting a Chinese antique, but it leads to all kinds of headaches.

After its initial release in China in September under the name S.M.A.R.T. Chase, the film has undergone a title change for its UK and US releases. The action/heist film is made by the team behind Mechanic Resurrection, Welcome to the Punch and Iron Man 3. Directed by Charles Martin, IP Man’s Simon Yan joins Bloom on the cast.

This one is going straight to a VOD release at the end of January with a DVD release in February.

The Shanghai Job Official Synopsis

Washed-up private security agent Danny Stratton has been reduced to low level body-guarding operations, after a botched job when a Van Gogh painting in his care was stolen. He gets a chance to restore his reputation when he’s given the rare opportunity to escort a valuable Chinese antique out of Shanghai. In the course of the mission he is ambushed, and, with the safety of the woman he loves in jeopardy, Danny has to work with his team of experts to save her, whilst also outsmarting the devious mastermind behind the heist.
