To celebrate the eagerly-anticipated release of The Sandman, Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s legendary comic-book series, we had the pleasure of chatting to its creator, filmmakers, and extraordinary cast who help bring the much-loved series to life for the first time.

There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.

We chat to – deep breath – creator Neil Gaiman and executive producer Allan Heinberg about adapting the show, why Netflix is the perfect home for the show, and why now is the right time to bring it to the screens. And we ask stars Tom Sturridge, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Vanesu Samunyai, Razane Jammal, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste about the lure of Gaiman’s work, why The Sandman was so revolutionary both in its story and approach but also how it set the tone for comic-books for the next three decades and the immersive, all-encompassing world of the show.
