Universal have been relatively quiet on their shared Movie Monsterverse since the first trailer for The Mummy appeared in December of last year. Their Luke Evans-starring Dracula Untold may or not be part of this new creative pool, however there is almost eighty years of scares waiting to be brought back to the boil. Casting Tom Cruise as a lead in the new Mummy film does much to indicate that Universal are throwing everything they have into this idea. It’s certain to be a far cry from the Saturday matinee cartoon feel of the Brendan Fraser films (check below for more BFF).
Sofia Boutella follows her turn in the third Star Trek film with a leading role here. Russell Crowe pops up as well as Dr. Henry Jekyll (at this point Universal aren’t even trying to hyde their shared universe seeds), and there’s a fine cast along for the ride including Courney B. Vance and Annabelle Wallis.
