Chungeorahm Films announced over the weekend that The Host 2 – a sequel to the 2006 Korean monster flick – is to be released in 3D.

Given the nature of the film and the current trends in the global film market, we think that 3D is the medium to go […] But this will delay the film’s release date and bring significant changes to the film’s logistics.

The Host 2 is expected to cost  $17.6 million to make, and will be based on a script currently being revised by web artist Kang Full. Due to the addition of 3D, the film will now be released in the summer of 2012.

The original film, which centered on an unremarkable family thrust into the middle of extraordinary events, grossed around $90M worldwide, earning rave reviews in the process.

Bong Joon-ho is not expected to return as director.
