The-Hobbit:-The-Desolation-of-Smaug-BannerWarner Bros. is less than a month away from putting The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug into cinemas, and the anticipation has building nicely for months.

The studio released an extended trailer and a new batch of character posters earlier in the month. And with just over three weeks left on the clock, they’ve launched the latest TV spot, kicking off with Bilbo trying to hide from the eponymous dragon.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece “The Hobbit”, by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventures of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Martin Freeman is naturally back at centre stage as the young Bilbo Baggins, and he’s joined by an even more impressive ensemble, starring alongside Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lee Pace, Orlando Bloom, Sylvester McCoy, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis, Stephen Fry, and many more.

Peter Jackson returns with the second instalment in his trilogy, co-writing the script with Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s original novel and the author’s many appendices.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is released in 2D, 3D, HFR 3D, and IMAX 3D on December 13th in the US and UK, and you can be sure this is going to be another huge winner for Warner Bros. heading into the New Year.
