MGM+ has unveiled the chilling trailer for its upcoming true crime docuseries ‘The Hillside Strangler,’ a harrowing deep dive into one of the darkest chapters in Los Angeles history.
In the late 1970s, Los Angeles was a city under siege. With monikers like the Freeway Killers, the Toolbox Killers, the Dating Game Killer, and the Skid Row Slasher dominating headlines, fear hung in the air like smog. Yet none cast a longer or more terrifying shadow than the Hillside Strangler. A faceless predator stalked the city, abducting, raping, and murdering a dozen women and girls, their bodies left posed on hillsides like grotesque warnings. What followed was the largest manhunt in the city’s blood-soaked history.
The trailer sets a grim tone as it traces the investigation led by relentless homicide detective Frank Salerno, whose obsessive pursuit ultimately cracked the case. The revelation stunned the nation. The monster was not one man, but two. Kenneth Bianchi and his cousin Angelo Buono, whose partnership of violence remains one of the most disturbing in American criminal history. Directed by Peter LoGreco, the series reconstructs the crimes with chilling precision, blending archival footage, stark reenactments, and first-hand testimony.
After what became the longest criminal trial in U.S. history, both men were sentenced to life in prison. Salerno’s work on the case became legend, defining his career and paving the way for his later role in bringing down the Night Stalker. Now, more than 40 years later, Salerno speaks on camera for the first time, revisiting the case that scarred him and reshaped his life. His voice carries the weight of memory, regret, and hard-won justice.
But Salerno is not the only one finally ready to talk. Angelo Buono died behind bars in 2002, taking many secrets with him. Kenneth Bianchi, however, is still alive in prison and has long refused to share his story on camera, until now. The trailer teases unprecedented access to Bianchi, promising revelations that may complicate what we think we know about the case.
