Richard ArmitageComing into a world so established as that of Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth must be an intimidating task particularly as the character of Thorin, so central to drama of the story being told in The Hobbit.

Richard Armitage is well known on these shores as a leading player in the BBC’s  long running spy drama Spooks as well as a frosty turn as John Thorton in the highly acclaimed adaptation of North and South.

As Thorin Oakenshield Armitage leads the Company of Dwarves on a quest of revenge to reclaim his heritage, and it is his motivation and character which casts a serious shadow over the light-hearted tone of the film.

I sat down with the actor recently and we spoke about the darkness at the heart of Thorin as well as what the future holds for him and his Company.

The Hobbit is available right now on Blu-ray and DVD. You can see all our other interviews on HeyUGuys including interviews with Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis and James Nesbitt here.
