Showtime has launched a new trailer for the limited series ‘The Good Lord Bird’ which stars Ethan Hawke.
Based on the National Book Award-winning novel ‘The Good Lord Bird’ by bestselling author James McBride, the story follows Onion (Joshua Caleb Johnson), a fictional enslaved boy who becomes a member of the motley family of controversial abolitionist John Brown (Hawke) during the period dubbed ‘Bleeding Kansas’.
At the time the state was a battleground between pro- and anti-slavery forces – and eventually Brown finds himself participating in the famous 1859 raid on the U.S. Armory at Harpers Ferry. The raid failed to initiate the slave revolt he intended but is considered the event that officially kicked off the U.S. Civil War.
The series stars Ellar Coltrane, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Beau Knapp, Nick Eversman, Jack Alcott and Mo Brings Plenty with guest appearances from Daveed Diggs, David Morse, Steve Zahn, Maya Hawke, Wyatt Russell and Orlando Jones.
