In lieu of another Tintin movie (the first of which I liked a lot) Steven Spielberg has turned his attention to another hero of childrens literature – Roald Dahl. His big screen adaptation of Dahl’s The BFG is highly-anticipated and the first trailer has arrived today.

Mark Rylance, previously seen in the director’s Bridge of Spies and the BBC’s Wolf Hall, plays the titular man, and the journey he shares with young Sophie (Ruby Barhill) in the land of Giants is perfect fodder for Spielberg’s storytelling.

Rebecca Hall, Jermaine Clement, Bill Hader and Penelope Wilton are all in the gang. The film will be released on the 22nd of July next year – expect it to be dedicated to its screenwriter – the great Melissa Mathison.
