Apple TV has released a new trailer for its upcoming sports comedy ‘The Dink,’ an underdog story set in the increasingly competitive world of pickleball. Produced by Ben Stiller and directed by Josh Greenbaum, the film arrives on the streaming platform on July 24, 2026.
The newly released trailer introduces audiences to Dusty Boyd, played by Jake Johnson, a once-promising tennis prodigy whose career never lived up to expectations. Now coaching a group of unruly children at his father’s suburban country club, Dusty remains desperate for the approval of his demanding father, Chuck, portrayed by Ed Harris.
Dusty eagerly supports Chuck’s campaign against the latest phenomenon sweeping the club: pickleball. However, after re-aggravating an old injury that effectively ends his ability to play tennis, he reluctantly turns to the sport he once dismissed as part of his rehabilitation.
What begins as a reluctant experiment soon becomes something more. Teaming up with Candace, played by Mary Steenburgen, Dusty discovers a surprising passion for pickleball and finds himself caught between loyalty to his father and his newfound love for the game.
As Dusty embraces this unexpected second chance, he must also confront the lingering disappointments of his past, including a rivalry with childhood nemesis and tennis legend Andy Roddick, who appears as himself in the film.
Directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) from a screenplay by Sean Clements (Workaholics), Alongside Johnson, Harris and Steenburgen, the ensemble cast features Patton Oswalt, Chloe Fineman, Chris Parnell, and Aaron Chen, with appearances from Andy Roddick and producer Ben Stiller.
