Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson take the lead in Wan’s horror/thriller, which Warner Bros. have impressively set for a summer release date this year. It will be competing for your attention with some of the biggest films of the year, and it will be very interesting to see how the lower-budgeted The Conjuring will open that weekend.
The studio took the film and a trailer to New York Comic-Con late last year, where it was very well received by audiences. And now the first trailer has finally landed online, giving us a great first look at the upcoming supernatural horror/thriller.
“The Conjuring tells the true story of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were called to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse.”
Farmiga and Wilson are joined by Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, and Mackenzie Foy.
Wan (Saw, Insidious) is behind the camera, directing from a script co-written by Chad and Carey Hayes (House of Wax, The Reaping).
Wan found brilliant success at the helm of Saw, which of course went on to spawn an incredibly successful franchise in the years to follow. He’s made more magic recently with Insidious, which opened to strong numbers back in 2010, and has launched a new franchise, with the director returning to the helm for Insidious 2. And with The Conjuring next up on his slate, things are looking very good for him, fans of his work, and fans of the genre.
The Conjuring will be released on 19th July in the US and the UK. That release date will see it going head-to-head with RIPD and DreamWorks’ Turbo, and follows a week after Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Needless to say, it should be a very big few weekends for the box office, as ever in the summer. For now, here’s the first trailer to give you a taste of what to expect.
