Last week, we had the pleasure of being invited to Madrid to interview the cast of The Chosen Season 5. The show has gathered huge momentum since Season 1, when it was crowd-funded by a loyal fan base eager to see The Bible told in a way like never before.

Since then, creator Dallas Jenkins has managed to steer the ship in a way that has kept the show free for people to watch as well as finding new funding and distribution across the globe to bring the show to new levels of production.

As well as the premiere, we got to sit down with Jonathan Roumie (Jesus), Shahar Issac (Simon Peter) and Vanessa Benavente (Mother Mary, Jesus’ mother) to discuss Season 5, what’s come before and where the show will go from here. If you’re familiar with The Bible, you know very well what is to come, but the way in which Jenkins is able to guide the show in ways no one expects keeps it both trawling and gripping all at the same time.

Check out our interviews below, and if you missed them, you can see our premiere interviews with many more of the cast here.

Plot:

The table is set. The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But—instead of confronting Rome—he turns the tables on his own religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last.

Jerusalem is a powder keg with all of Jesus’ followers, enemies, and over a million Passover pilgrims packed into one small place. He shows sides of Himself we’ve never seen till now—turning over tables, literally cracking the whip, and weeping with heartbreak but also love. He also confuses His followers at every turn…and to what end? The takeaway for you from this season: Can you believe and follow even when you don’t understand?
