Horror sequel The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes is heading into production this summer via Dimension Films and Miramax, with a release date scheduled for early next year.

What’s that you say? The 2005 remake of the 70’s original failed to make a dent at the box office, so why this new sequel? This time around, the ole’ “found footage” device (à la Paranormal Activity and its sequel) is being applied to the proceedings.

The haunted house sub-genre has seen resurgence of late. Aside from the ‘Paranormal’ films (series producer Jason Blum is also aboard here), Insidious has also done solid box office in the UK and over the pond.

Wonder how long it will be before a reboot of Poltergeist is unveiled, using the same narrative structure?
